RICHARD HAEGER
–
Born and raised just outside Chicago in Oak Park, Illinois, Richard Haeger was fascinated by nature, art and architecture. Riding his bike from the south side to the north side of Oak Park to play Little League and later Pony League baseball he would intentionally ride out of his way to stop and ponder the unique subtleties of the many Frank Lloyd Wright homes occupying Oak Park’s center city area. What was it about these architectural touchstones that was so interesting... their integration with nature? A sensitivity to materials and to light? Their graceful strength of character? All of the above and more, and as these design essentials were integrating and deepening, over time they became central to Richard’s experience and representative of his professional work in residential design and planning.
Later, upon graduating from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, he packed his small car full to the brim and drove to San Francisco to begin his design career there with the internationally known firm of John Portman and Associates at work on the Embarcadero Center multi-office building project. During his work at Embarcadero Center he met his future wife France-Marie and after several years they relocated together to Encinitas, in the north county of San Diego. Richard opened his design studio/office in 1982, specializing in a diversity of custom residential design projects from new custom homes to additions/remodels in Colorado, Orange County and primarily throughout the greater San Diego area.
